The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) invites online applications from eligible and qualified candidates for the post of Assistant Director (Systems) in the Directorate of Income Tax (Systems), Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance. The role of an Assistant Director (Systems) is highly technical in nature. Selected candidates will be responsible for developing, testing, debugging, and implementing application programs as per the specifications provided by senior officers such as the Deputy Director (Systems) or Joint Director (Systems). Additionally, the role includes maintaining software systems, ensuring timely updates, and supervising the work of Data Processing Assistants under their purview.

Candidates with a general Master’s Degree or a degree in Engineering from a recognized university are also considered eligible if accompanied by relevant experience. Additionally, qualifications such as an 'A' Level Diploma from DOEACC (now NIELIT), Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications under a university program, or a Post-Polytechnic Diploma in Computer Applications are acceptable.

Along with educational qualifications, professional experience in the field of Electronic Data Processing (EDP) and computer programming is mandatory. The minimum required experience ranges from two to four years, depending on the educational qualification. For instance, those with higher technical degrees like M.Tech or MCA need a minimum of two years of experience, while those with general degrees may need up to four years of experience with at least two years in actual programming.

The age limit for this post is up to 35 years for general and EWS candidates, 38 years for OBC, 40 years for SC/ST, and up to 45 years for PwBD applicants. Age relaxation is provided as per the Government of India rules. Candidates currently employed in the central government may also be eligible for additional relaxation, subject to fulfilling the required criteria.

The selection process may include a Recruitment Test (RT) followed by a personal interview. The UPSC reserves the right to shortlist candidates based on their qualifications, experience, or performance in the RT. Final merit will typically be calculated based on a 75:25 ratio of RT and interview marks.
