The SSC Junior Engineer Examination 2026 will be conducted in two papers: Paper-I and Paper-II. Both papers will be conducted in Computer Based Examination (CBE) mode.

Negative Marking

Paper-I: 0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.

Paper-II: 1 mark will be deducted for every wrong answer.

Important Points

Both Paper-I and Paper-II are Computer Based Examinations.
Questions are objective type and multiple choice.
Questions are set in Hindi and English.
Paper-I is qualifying in nature.
Candidates are shortlisted for Paper-II based on normalized Paper-I marks and minimum qualifying marks.
Only normalized marks of Paper-II are used for determining final merit.
The subject or stream selected in the application form cannot be changed later.
A scientific calculator will be available on the computer screen during the examination.
Physical calculators are not allowed inside the examination laboratory.

SSC Junior Engineer Examination 2026 – Short Description

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the official notification for the Junior Engineer (JE) Examination 2026 for recruitment to various Junior Engineer posts in different Ministries, Departments and Organizations of the Government of India. The recruitment drive offers an excellent opportunity for candidates holding Engineering Degree or Diploma qualifications in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and related disciplines to secure a Central Government job.

According to the notification, SSC JE 2026 will be conducted for approximately 1,748 tentative vacancies. The vacancies may be revised by the concerned departments and the final number of vacancies will be notified by SSC as and when received from the user departments.

Eligible candidates can apply online through the official SSC website. The online application process will start on 2 September 2026, and the last date to submit the application form is 22 September 2026 up to 11:00 PM. Candidates must complete the online fee payment by 23 September 2026 up to 11:00 PM. The application correction window will be available from 28 September to 30 September 2026.

The Junior Engineer posts are available in various Central Government departments and organizations. Depending on the department and post, candidates with a Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunication or other relevant engineering disciplines may be eligible. Candidates are advised to carefully check the post-wise educational qualification and experience requirements before submitting the application.

The age limit for SSC JE 2026 varies according to the post. For certain posts, the maximum age limit is 30 years, while for some posts it is 32 years, calculated as on 1 August 2026. Age relaxation is applicable to candidates belonging to reserved categories such as SC, ST, OBC, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen as per Government of India rules.

The application fee for SSC JE 2026 is ₹100. Women candidates and candidates belonging to SC, ST, PwBD and eligible Ex-Servicemen categories are exempted from payment of the examination fee.

The SSC JE selection process consists of Paper-I and Paper-II. Paper-I is a Computer Based Examination consisting of 200 objective-type questions carrying a total of 200 marks. The examination covers General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness and the candidate's respective Engineering subject. Paper-I is mainly used for shortlisting candidates for Paper-II.

Paper-II is also conducted as a Computer Based Examination and carries 300 marks. It focuses on the candidate's selected Engineering discipline. The normalized marks obtained in Paper-II will play an important role in determining the final merit and selection. Negative marking is applicable in both papers. Candidates should therefore attempt questions carefully.

The SSC JE 2026 examination is primarily conducted in English and Hindi. Candidates appearing for the examination must select their Engineering discipline carefully while filling out the application form, as changes to the selected subject/stream may not be permitted later.

The examination is expected to be conducted in October/November 2026 for Paper-I, while Paper-II is tentatively scheduled for December 2026. The exact examination dates and other details will be announced by SSC through its official website.
