The Preliminary Exam consists of tests in English Language, Reasoning, and Numerical Ability. The Main Exam is more comprehensive, covering English, Reasoning, Numerical Ability, Computer Knowledge, and General Awareness. Candidates must qualify in each stage to move forward. Final selection is based on performance in the Main Exam and proficiency in the regional language.

The pre-revised pay scale begins at Rs. 22,405 per month, and total monthly emoluments are approximately Rs. 40,000 in metropolitan cities.
