Naval Dockyard Mumbai Apprentice Recruitment 2025 – Notification Details

The Naval Dockyard Apprentice School, Mumbai has officially released notification IT-27 for the recruitment of apprentices in designated trades under the Apprentices Act 1961. A total of 286 vacancies are available for training beginning from December 2025. This opportunity is open for both ITI qualified and fresher candidates who wish to pursue skill-based technical training with one of India’s premier defence establishments. The recruitment is highly significant as it provides practical industry-level exposure along with government-recognized certification.

The available seats are spread across 32 trades including Electrician, Electronics Mechanic, Fitter, Foundryman, Instrument Mechanic, Machinist, Marine Engine Fitter, Mason, Mechanic Industrial Electronics, Mechanic Mechatronics, Welder, Crane Operator (Overhead SI), Rigger and many others. Instead of individual post names being advertised, all trades are combined under one category of Apprenticeship Training with 286 total positions. This makes the notification straightforward for candidates who hold ITI or equivalent qualifications in the concerned trades.

Eligibility requirements have been clearly specified. For most trades, candidates should have passed ITI (NCVT/SCVT) in the relevant discipline. For the Crane Operator post, 10th standard pass is the minimum requirement, while for Rigger, 8th pass candidates can also apply. This ensures opportunities for both technically trained individuals and freshers with lower academic backgrounds but a desire to learn. The period of apprenticeship training will be as per rules of the Apprentices Act, ensuring candidates receive structured learning and stipend during training.

Age eligibility is another important factor. As per the notification, the minimum age is 14 years for non-hazardous trades and 18 years for hazardous trades. There is no upper age limit for apprentices, making this recruitment inclusive for a wide age group. Relaxations are applicable as per government rules, especially for reserved categories. Candidates must also be medically fit as per standards laid down under the Apprentices Rules 1992. A valid medical fitness certificate from a government hospital is mandatory before engagement.

The selection process involves shortlisting, written examination, document verification, and medical examination. Initially, all applications will be screened to create a merit list based on ITI and academic marks. Candidates in proportion to vacancies will then be issued admit cards for the written examination. The exam will be OMR based, consisting of 100 marks with sections covering General Science, Mathematics, and General Awareness. The paper will be bilingual in English and Hindi and will have no negative marking. The exam will be conducted in Mumbai in October 2025.

Following the written exam, a final merit list will be prepared category-wise. Shortlisted candidates will be called for document verification, followed by medical examination. Successful candidates will then be admitted to the apprenticeship program commencing from 01 December 2025. It is important to note that completing apprenticeship training does not guarantee employment in the Naval Dockyard. However, ex-apprentices will be eligible to apply for the Tradesman Skilled post in the future as per Indian Navy recruitment rules.

Stipend during training will be paid as per the latest government orders. Candidates will also be entitled to free medical treatment from the Naval Dockyard Dispensary during the training period. However, no free boarding, lodging, or travel expenses will be provided at any stage of the recruitment or training. Aspirants must make their own arrangements for stay and travel during examinations and verification stages.

Reservation policies are applicable in full as per government rules. Vacancies have been reserved for SC, ST, OBC, Persons with Benchmark Disabilities, and children of Armed Forces personnel. Horizontal reservations apply for PwBD candidates in specific groups such as locomotor disability, visual impairment, hearing impairment, and intellectual disabilities. Candidates seeking reservation benefits must upload valid supporting certificates during online application.

One of the major highlights of this notification is that no application fee is required. All candidates including UR, OBC, SC, ST, PwBD, and others can apply free of cost. The online application portal will remain active for 21 days from the date of publication of the notification in Employment News. Applications must be submitted online only at https://applicationportal.in/ with scanned copies of required documents including educational certificates, caste certificates, Aadhaar, and photographs.

How to Apply Online and Key Instructions

Interested candidates must carefully read the notification and eligibility conditions before proceeding with the application. Applications can only be submitted through the official portal https://applicationportal.in/ and no physical forms will be accepted. The application process requires uploading documents such as ITI marksheets, 8th or 10th standard certificates, caste and category certificates, identity proof, and Aadhaar card. Candidates are advised to upload clear scanned documents in PDF format and avoid blurred images or photographs taken from mobile cameras.

Applicants must also provide a valid email ID and mobile number, as all communication regarding admit cards, exam dates, and merit lists will be done through online mode only. After submitting the application, candidates should retain a copy of acknowledgement and admit card for reference during examination and verification. Multiple applications or incomplete forms are liable to rejection.

Candidates must prepare well for the written exam as it is the key stage of selection. Equal weightage is given to General Science and Mathematics (35 marks each), along with General Awareness (30 marks). The exam duration will be two hours and will be conducted in offline mode with OMR sheets. Since no negative marking is applicable, candidates can attempt all questions without fear of losing marks.

After the exam, results will be displayed on the official website and merit lists will be category and trade wise. Any grievances regarding merit lists can be submitted to the helpdesk within seven days of publication. The helpdesk email and phone number are provided in the notification for queries. Candidates must strictly avoid canvassing or approaching unauthorized persons for influence, as this may lead to disqualification.
