MahaDBT Maharashtra Scholarship 2025–26: Complete Application Process and Important Details
MahaDBT, also known as Aaple Sarkar DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer), is the official online portal launched by the Government of Maharashtra to provide scholarships and various welfare schemes directly to eligible students and citizens through a transparent and efficient digital system. The main objective of MahaDBT is to ensure that students from economically weaker sections and reserved categories receive timely financial support to pursue their education without facing financial obstacles. For the academic year 2025–26, the MahaDBT portal has opened applications for fresh and renewal scholarships, benefiting lakhs of students across the state.
Under MahaDBT, the Maharashtra government runs more than 45 different scholarship schemes through various departments such as the Social Justice and Special Assistance Department, Tribal Development Department, Directorate of Technical Education, Higher and Technical Education Department, OBC, SEBC, VJNT, SBC Welfare Department, Minority Development Department, and others. These scholarships cover students from primary school to postgraduate and professional courses like Engineering, Medical, Pharmacy, and more.
The application process for MahaDBT scholarships is completely online and very student-friendly. To apply, students must first visit the official MahaDBT portal https://mahadbt.maharashtra.gov.in. The application for the 2025–26 academic year opened on 30th June 2025. Before this, the portal was under scheduled maintenance to ensure smooth operations for the new session. The last date for submission varies by scheme but students are advised to apply as early as possible, preferably before mid-July 2025, to avoid last-minute rush and server issues.
To be eligible, the applicant must be a domicile of Maharashtra. They should be enrolled in a recognized educational institution within Maharashtra or in some cases outside the state if allowed by the scheme. The student must have passed their previous qualifying examination with the minimum percentage required by their respective scholarship scheme, usually 60% or more, although some categories such as SC, ST, OBC, or differently-abled students may have relaxed criteria. Income limits vary: for example, for Post Matric Scholarships for SC and ST students, the annual family income should not exceed ₹2.5 lakh, while for OBC or SEBC students it may be up to ₹8 lakh, depending on the scheme.
The list of documents needed is crucial for a successful application. Mandatory documents include an Aadhaar Card linked to the applicant’s bank account, domicile certificate, caste certificate and caste validity (if applicable), income certificate, previous year’s mark sheets, current year’s bonafide certificate from the educational institution, fee receipt, bank passbook copy, and a recent passport-sized photograph. All documents must be scanned clearly and uploaded in the prescribed format and file size.
The MahaDBT application process begins with New Applicant Registration. Here, the student must authenticate using Aadhaar through OTP or biometric verification. Once registered, the student creates a username and password to log in to the portal. After logging in, they must complete their personal profile, academic details, bank details, and upload all required documents. The portal uses the Aadhaar database to auto-fill certain details, which reduces errors and makes the process faster.
After completing the profile, students can view all eligible schemes under the “All Schemes” section. They must carefully read the eligibility conditions and select the scheme that matches their category and course. Once the appropriate scholarship is selected, the application form must be filled out accurately, necessary documents uploaded, and the form must be verified thoroughly before final submission. Students should save a copy of the submitted application for future reference.
For renewal applicants, the process is even simpler. They need to log in to their existing account, choose the Renewal Application option, update the academic year and course details, upload the latest mark sheet, bonafide certificate, and fee receipt, and submit. Renewal ensures that the scholarship support continues without any gap for the subsequent academic year.
After submission, the application goes through several stages of verification: Institute Level Scrutiny, Department Level Scrutiny, and finally, the Sanctioning of funds. Students can check their application status anytime by logging into the portal and going to the “My Applied Schemes” section. Statuses like “Under Scrutiny”, “Approved”, “Rejected”, “Sent Back for Correction”, or “Fund Disbursed” will appear at each stage. If the application is rejected or sent back for correction, the student must re-upload the required documents or correct errors within the specified time.
Once approved, the scholarship amount is credited directly to the student’s Aadhaar-linked bank account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, ensuring complete transparency. The disbursement usually happens in multiple installments depending on the scheme and the department’s schedule.
For any technical difficulties, students can reach out to the MahaDBT helpline at 022-49150800 or raise a grievance through the portal. Colleges and universities also have nodal officers to guide students through the process.
In conclusion, MahaDBT has revolutionized the way scholarships are provided in Maharashtra. It removes middlemen, saves time, and ensures that deserving students get financial assistance directly in their bank accounts. Students are strongly encouraged to keep their documents ready, apply early, and check their status regularly to benefit fully from this valuable government initiative.
