The Indian Coast Guard, an Armed Force of the Union under the Ministry of Defence, invites dynamic and committed Indian male candidates to join as Assistant Commandants in the 2027 batch. The Assistant Commandant post is a leadership role that requires candidates to be physically fit, mentally sharp, and academically qualified. The General Duty branch is open to graduates from recognized universities with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level, while the Technical branch requires an engineering degree in specific disciplines such as Mechanical, Marine, Electrical, Electronics, or related fields, with similar Physics and Mathematics eligibility.

The age limit for applicants is 21 to 25 years as of 1st July 2026, with applicable relaxations for reserved categories and serving personnel. The total number of vacancies is 170, comprising 140 posts in the GD branch and 30 posts in the Technical branch.

The selection process comprises five rigorous stages: Stage I is the Coast Guard Common Admission Test (CGCAT), a computer-based exam assessing knowledge in English, Reasoning, General Science, and General Knowledge. Stage II is the Preliminary Selection Board (PSB) involving Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PP&DT) and Cognitive Battery Test. Stage III is the Final Selection Board (FSB), which includes Psychological Testing, Group Tasks, and Personal Interview. Stage IV involves a detailed medical examination at designated service hospitals, and Stage V is the induction and training phase at the Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala.

Selected candidates will be appointed as Assistant Commandants with a starting pay level of 10 (₹56,100/-) along with allowances and benefits such as government accommodation or HRA, medical coverage for self and family, insurance of ₹1.25 crore, leave travel concession (LTC), pension schemes, and post-retirement ECHS medical facilities.

After induction, Assistant Commandants undergo intensive training—44 weeks for GD and 22 weeks for Technical—followed by on-job training across Coast Guard units, ships, and establishments. The Indian Coast Guard emphasizes integrity, discipline, and physical standards. Candidates must be free of any criminal record, not debarred from government exams, and must meet strict medical criteria including minimum height of 157 cm, proportionate weight, good vision, and no permanent tattoos (except allowed tribal exemptions).

Candidates need to upload scanned documents such as photograph, signature, educational certificates, ID proof, and caste certificate (if applicable) during the application.
