The Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF), a unit of Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL) under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, has announced a comprehensive recruitment drive for the engagement of Junior Technicians on a Fixed Tenure Contract basis. The opportunity is open to qualified and skilled Indian citizens willing to serve at the prestigious HVF campus in Avadi, Chennai. This contractual engagement is initially for a period of one year and may be extended up to three additional years based on the candidate’s performance and factory requirements. A total of 1850 vacancies have been advertised across various trades including Electrician, Machinist, Welder, Fitter General, Fitter Electronics, Painter, Rigger, Operator Material Handling Equipment, and several others. The online application process begins on 28th June 2025 and concludes on 19th July 2025, with document verification and trade tests scheduled for 26th and 27th July 2025.

Applicants must hold National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC), National Trade Certificate (NTC), or State Trade Certificate (STC) in the relevant disciplines issued by NCVT/SCVT. Some posts, such as those for Material Handling Operators and Riggers, also allow candidates with a 10th Standard qualification combined with relevant industrial experience. The minimum qualifying percentage for most categories is 65%, with a relaxation of 5% for SC, ST, OBC (NCL), and PwBD candidates. Candidates should not exceed 35 years of age as on the closing date, although extensive age relaxations are available for SC/ST, OBC (NCL), PwBD, Ex-Servicemen, and those with relevant work experience. The upper age limit, including all relaxations, is capped at 55 years.

Remuneration for Junior Technicians includes a minimum basic pay of ₹21,000 per month along with Industrial Dearness Allowance (IDA), a special allowance of 5% of the basic, and annual increments of 3% based on satisfactory performance. Additional benefits include a consolidated sum of ₹3,000 per month to cover medical, insurance, and conveyance expenses, as well as EPF contributions, gratuity after one year, and ex-gratia in case of on-site death due to accident. Accommodation, if available, may be provided on a license fee basis, though House Rent Allowance is not offered.

The selection process consists of a shortlisting phase followed by a qualifying Trade Test. Priority will be given to HVF Ex-Apprentices, followed by ex-apprentices of erstwhile OFB, and finally other NAC/NTC holders. For candidates with only Class 10th and relevant experience, selection will be based on experience years and Class 10th marks. Document verification will precede the Trade Test, and only those who qualify will proceed further. The Trade Test will be held exclusively at HVF Avadi, and candidates are advised to make necessary travel and stay arrangements accordingly. There is no provision for TA/DA. Biometric verification will be done before and during the engagement process.

The tenure of employment is strictly temporary and contractual in nature. It does not imply any right to permanent employment with HVF or any other AVNL unit. Either party may terminate the contract with one month’s notice or by paying the equivalent remuneration in lieu. Grounds for termination include non-performance, medical unfitness, criminal history, unauthorized absence exceeding 15 days, or suppression of facts.

Candidates are required to upload scanned copies of essential documents including educational certificates, identity proofs, experience certificates, caste or EWS certificates (where applicable), and photographs. The application fee is ₹300 for UR/OBC/EWS candidates, while SC/ST/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen and female applicants are exempted. All communication will be made via registered email and mobile numbers, and candidates must ensure these remain active for at least one year.
