What is a Food License?
A Food License is mandatory for any business involved in the manufacturing, processing, storage, distribution, and sale of food products. In India, it is regulated by the FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
Types of FSSAI Licenses
Basic Registration - For small businesses with annual turnover below ₹12 lakhs.
State License : For medium-sized businesses with annual turnover between ₹12 lakhs and ₹20 crores (within one state).
Central License : For large businesses with annual turnover above ₹20 crores or operating in more than one state.
Documents Required
For Basic Registration:
Passport-size photo
Address proof (Aadhaar/Driving License/Voter ID)
Business name and address
Address proof (Aadhaar/Driving License/Voter ID)
Food category details
For State/Central License:
Form-B duly completed and signed
Photo ID and address proof of proprietor/partner/director
Proof of possession of premises (Rental agreement, utility bill, etc.)
Partnership deed / MOA / AOA
List of food categories
Blueprint/layout of processing unit
Equipment list and machinery details
Water quality report
NOC from Municipality or Panchayat
Food safety management plan (For Central License)
