Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) is one of India’s largest engineering and manufacturing enterprises, known for its world-class products and services across sectors like Power, Transmission, Defence, Aerospace, Transportation, Oil & Gas, and Renewable Energy. For 2025, BHEL has released a major recruitment notification for 515 Artisan Grade-IV posts across its various prestigious manufacturing units in India. The Artisan recruitment aims to hire bright, young ITI-qualified candidates who can contribute their skills in different trades such as Fitter, Welder, Turner, Machinist, Electrician, Electronics Mechanic, and Foundryman. These trades play a crucial role in BHEL’s production lines, repairs, fabrication, and manufacturing operations across India. The selected artisans will be deployed at different BHEL plants located in states like Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh, ensuring wide employment opportunities for candidates across multiple regions.

To be eligible for this recruitment, candidates must have completed their 10th class, obtained a National Trade Certificate (NTC) or equivalent ITI, and also possess a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) in the relevant trade. General and OBC candidates must secure at least 60% marks in both ITI and NAC, while SC/ST candidates need a minimum of 55%. This combination of qualification ensures that only skilled and technically sound candidates join the workforce.

In terms of age criteria, the upper age limit is 27 years for General and EWS candidates, 30 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), and 32 years for SC/ST candidates as of 1st July 2025. Relaxations are also provided for PwD, Ex-Servicemen, and certain other special categories as per government rules. Additional age relaxation of up to seven years is available if the candidate has relevant work experience in the same trade, which must be proven through proper documents.

The recruitment process involves a two-stage selection procedure. First, all applicants must appear for a Computer-Based Examination (CBE) which will assess their trade knowledge, aptitude, and relevant skills. The exam will be conducted at multiple centers with options for Hindi, English, or the local regional language, depending on the unit location. Based on the performance in the CBT, shortlisted candidates will be called for the Skill Test and Document Verification stage. The skill test will check the practical abilities required for the specific trade and is qualifying in nature. The final merit list will be prepared solely on the basis of CBT marks, provided candidates clear the skill test and document verification.

For candidates who have been declared Best Apprentice or Runner-Up Apprentice at the national level All India Skill Competitions organized by the Directorate General of Employment and Training, there is an added advantage. Such candidates are exempted from appearing in the CBT and will be directly called for the skill test, subject to fulfilling other eligibility criteria. If selected, these candidates will receive additional increments too, rewarding their exceptional performance.

After selection, candidates will initially be appointed as Temporary Employees for a period of one year. During this time, they will receive consolidated wages as per the minimum wages applicable in their unit’s state. Upon successful completion of this period, they will be regularized as Artisan Grade-IV with a pay scale ranging from Rs. 29,500 to Rs. 65,000 plus allowances as per company rules. Selected artisans must serve in their assigned unit for a minimum of 20 years, and transfer requests will not be entertained during this period except in very special circumstances.

Applicants must pay an application fee of Rs. 1072 (including processing fee and GST) for General, OBC, and EWS categories, while SC, ST, PwD, and Ex-Servicemen only need to pay the processing fee of Rs. 472.
